Here at the Great Smoky Mountains there are over 800 miles of trails with many unbelievable sites to see. Many of the trails lead to an excellent waterfall, stream or pristine area of wildlife. Also, for tourist convenience there is an effort level for each trail, so nobody ends up lost in the mountains.
POPULAR HIKING TRAILS: Andrews bald (easy) -1.7 miles on the Forney trail and opportunity for picnics and stops
Porters Creek (easy) -East of Gatlingburg ..4 miles long. Includes John Messer farm.
The Jump off (medium) -1000 ft cliff near Mt. Kephart...Great for hiking, and picnic lunch. Total 6.5 miles.
Alum Cave (medium) -4.4 miles round trip, and opportunities to see peregrine falcons.
Charlie's Bunion (medium) -Rock that sticks out like a bunion that has spectacular views
Mount Cammerer (hard) -12 mile trip to Mount Cammerer to a peak that overlooks pigeon valley gorge
Gregory bald (hard) -5.6 miles. Famous for beautiful azaleas, and Cades Cove and Fontana lake are near here.
Mount Le Conte (hard) -5.5 miles. Climb through arch rock to see inspiration point, and when you reach the top you can visit Clingman's Dome and see an amazing view of the Smokies.
Rocky Top (hard) -12.5 miles on Rocky Top (one of the tree peaks of Thunderhead Mountain). Anthony creek, and Cades cove picnic area can be found here and at the peak there are many beautiful flowers and meadows, also Fontana Lake, Cades Cove, Townsend, Maryville can be spotted.
Le Conte Lodge: only lodge actually located in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Includes a very rustic set up with old water basins for bathtubs, kerosene lamps, and fireplaces. 2 bedrooms is $708 for a maximum of 8 people, and $88.50 for each additional person. 3 bedrooms is $1062, and $88.50 for each additional person.
